SciTech has been astounding children (and their parents!) for 25 years. It is the concept of a local children’s science presenter, Philip Rose. “Being dyslexic I know how to present science to all children including dyslexics - to understand science you have to do it!”
SciTech mixes a blend of amazing children with amazing high-tech equipment such as ultrasound scanners, surgical microscopes, thermal imaging cameras and even a Mercedes Formula One racing car! Most of the staff were once children on the courses themselves and for some, so were their parents! At a SciTech event approximately 85% of the children will have been to at least one other event before. “We must be doing something right, they keep coming back!”
The courses are for children from 5 – 12. Our 5 – 6 year olds operate in a group specially designed for them.
The courses run for a week in the summer holidays and a 3 day period at Easter where children can opt for 1, 2 or 3 days. This Easter the courses are ‘Cool Science’, ‘Paper’ and ‘Jelly & Slime’. There are still a few places left for the Easter course. An announcement about our summer programme will be made here shortly.
Dates: Wednesday 4th, Thursday 5th and Friday 6th April 2018 from 10am – 4:30pm.
Venue: Baguley Hall County Primary School, Ackworth Drive, Wythenshawe, Manchester, M23 1LB
THIN FILM TECHNOLOGY – BUBBLES!
This is not for those children who are reluctant to go near the bath in case they might get clean! You’ll be using lots of ‘soap’ to make bubbles of all shapes, sizes and colours, blow bubbles within bubbles, make square bubbles and lots lots more. You are bound to get some soap near you. So BEWARE! Of course you can make bubbles from other stuff besides soap – How about Bubble Chocolate!?
THE FORCES OF NATURE! – VOLCANOES, EARTHQUAKES AND HURRICANES!
Where do volcanoes come from? How do earthquakes happen? Why do hurricanes put everything into such a spin? Well, to find out you will have to help build a volcano and make it erupt! Measure the strength of an earthquake! And pop a hurricane into a bottle!!
BODYWORKS (and how to fix them when they break down!)
