Hope is a unique non-denominational charity for children. The Hope Centre for Cognitive Education is dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of learning potential using the methodology of Professor Feuerstein. The Centre helps students with a variety of learning and developmental difficulties ranging from bright under-achievers to those with complex needs including autistic spectrum disorders, ADHD, Downs Syndrome.

The methods include Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment programme (IE) a structured thinking skills programme taught individually or in groups and is designed to complement and underpin a regular school curriculum and Mediated Learning Experience (MLE) which develops the learner’s cognitive functions. Mediated Learning involves the child as an active participant in the learning process, making the child consciously aware of how he is thinking. The Centre works as a multi-disciplinary team and actively encourage parents to become mediators with their own children and are invited to participate in teaching sessions.

MOVE is a national charity working with severely disabled children in a Programme designed to increase their mobility and therefore their independence.

MOVE combines therapy and education in a programme which helps children work towards goals that they really want to achieve, which can range from learning to hold their head up by themselves to learning the skills needed to play football with their friends using a pacer. MOVE is unique in that no child is too disabled to use it and works with the child’s parents, teachers and therapists to teach them skills which are then practised in everyday life, enabling parents to be involved in key decision making and instrumental in their child’s development.

Childcare in London Share

We nurture character because we believe 'soft skills' are as important as academics

We help children fly by giving them the skills they need to grow, develop and thrive in a changing world because we believe that children should be skilled for life as well as being schooled in the classroom. To do this, we offer:

  1. Individual creative childcare to support childrens’ passions.
  2. A one-to-one Leadership Programme designed to develop young leaders with the passion, character and skills to make a positive difference in the world.
  3. We also provide group courses that give children some of the key skills to succeed in the 21st century; leadership, resilience, teamwork and creativity.

We approach everything in a way that’s serious fun.

1. Creative Childcare - An ad hoc and part-time creative childcare service in London for 3-12 year olds, provided by fun, engaging & talented Role Models.

We want to inspire children to create and learn, whilst having fun at the same time. Not only do our Role Models have extensive childcare experience but they are also lucky enough to be super talented in at least one of music, arts & crafts, drama, sport or homework (whilst many also come with other talents such as cooking or languages). What’s more, they all love sharing their passion with children. Our ongoing Role Models can normally commit to a minimum of 3 months, potentially longer depending on your requirements (e.g. after-school care or full time roles in the holidays). Our fees are £16.50ph and £20/month membership (minimum 2 months). Alternatively you can be a non-member and pay £16.50ph and £30/session.

2. Leadership Programme - This tailored programme for 10-14 year olds, designed in partnership with Katy Granville-Chapman, Director of the Wellington College Leadership Institute, will use the latest research to develop young leaders with passion, character and skills who can make a positive difference in the world. The programme is inspired by Harvard Business School’s Leadership Initiative; The University of Pennsylvania’s Positive Psychology Centre; The University of Oxford’s Department of Education and The University of Melbourne’s Positive Education Centre.

The programme is 8 sessions of 90 minutes with one of our exceptional Role Models trained in delivering leadership education and takes place at the family’s home. The programme costs £595.

3. Life Skills Courses - The courses are a fun way of developing a growth mindset and the key ‘soft’ skills required to thrive in social & work environments at school, at home and in life ahead. The programme aim is to encourage children to push themselves outside of their comfort zones, embrace new experiences and persist with areas that are not their strengths.

Our range of five fun and interesting 4-5 day half-term and holiday courses (10am – 3pm daily) for 8-12 year olds in London are in Teamwork, Resilience, Leadership, Creativity and a final module in Mastery. These separate courses can be completed in any order, on their own or as a complete programme. The 5th‘Mastery’ module is designed as our ‘graduation’ course for children who have completed the previous four courses.

Our 2018 courses are finalised as:

Easter Teamwork Course – April 9-13th – Chelsea Academy School, SW10 0AB
Easter Resilience Course – April 9-13th – Chelsea Academy School, SW10 0AB
Early Summer Teamwork Course – July 23-27th – Chelsea Academy School, SW10 0AB

Mid-Summer Leadership Course – August 20-24th – Chelsea Academy School, SW10 0AB
Mid-Summer Creativity Course – August 20-24th – Chelsea Academy School, SW10 0AB
Late Summer Resilience Course – August 28-31st – Chelsea Academy School, SW10 0AB

children's therapists Share

Helping children with emotional & behaviour problems

Many children don’t want to, or cannot, talk about their problems. Play therapy is very effective for children aged 3 to 12. The child chooses from a range of activities in the play room. These include: drawing and painting, sand tray, clay, puppets, musical instruments, story-telling, role play. The Play Therapist focuses closely on the child, communicating using the media the child has chosen. Although of course, the child can talk about their problems, when they are ready, on average research shows only 8% of the session is spent in talking.

Between 73% and 84% receiving play therapy to Play Therapy UK’s standards show a positive change – the more severe the problems the higher the change. (Based on over 10,000 cases).

Because play therapy works through unconscious processes, it is important that practitioners are fully qualified and meet the highest standards of practice. Play Therapy is now regulated through the Professional Standards Authority’s Accredited Register programme. The PTUK Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists warrants the quality and effectiveness of its Registrants. Using unregistered therapists can be dangerous.

Play therapy improves a child’s ability to learn and reduces the chance of adult mental health problems.

Often the symptoms are all too obvious, but the causes less so. Rather than focusing on the symptoms we identify the underlying causes and work to reduce them through a daily exercise done at home.

Do you or your child have:

  • Reading problems
  • Dyslexia

  • Dyspraxia(DCD)
  • Attention Deficit disorder(ADD)
  • Asperger’s Syndrome
  • Anxiety and Panic Disorder
  • Developmental immaturity
  • Speech and language difficulties
  • Bed wetting
  • Low self esteem
  • Sensory processing difficulties

The individual Reflex integration and stimulation programmes we provide work at a very early point developmentally. They work by securing the foundations on which all other development is built. School for Dyslexics Share

Frewen College has been providing specialist support for young people with dyslexia and other related needs for over 60 years. Both Junior and Senior schools are based in beautiful surroundings in the Wealden countryside, on the borders of Kent and Sussex with extensive grounds and playing fields. We offer day and boarding places for boys and girls aged 6 – 16 years.

We provide a unique combination of curricular and pastoral support. Every pupil is seen as equal with individual talents and abilities. Developing these talents is central to the education we provide. Our experienced team, most of whom have specialist dyslexia training, will do all they can to help pupils overcome their problems in the way that best suits the individual child and help them fulfil their full potential. We maintain average class sizes at below six, and one to one mentoring is available when needed.

Frewen College is one of a few schools which is a charity run by an independent educational trust.
