It’s February and it seems as though we have not seen or felt the sun for months. Oh to be lying on a beach or floating in a cool pool! Well, that’s the idyllic thought of a holiday, but for many people it really is just a dream, as even though they are on holiday, life isn’t as carefree as it should be. The people who I am talking about are the 1000’s of people classed as single parents or lone travellers who are holidaying alone with their children.
For single parents, holidays can be a nightmare; mainly through feeling isolated and alone especially when the children have made new friends so don’t need their parent as much. Daytimes are not such a problem as it is easy to hide under a sunshade and read a book. However the evenings are worse when they have to sit at a table alone with a glass of wine because their child has gone off with their new found friends. We were amazed to discover how many single parents, when on holiday returned to their room immediately after dinner rather than sitting alone for the rest of the evening.
Back in 2001 there did not exist any opportunity for single parents to have a holiday other that with the main UK operators, who had no understanding of the needs of single parent families. It is for this reason that it was necessary to create a brand new specialist holiday company so Small Families Holidays was created and launched to a very appreciative UK.
Small Families Holidays realised that the answer to enjoyable and fun holidays was to organise group departures. These guaranteed lots of similar aged children and more importantly a group of around 8-12 single adults, both mums and dads who could socialise as much or as little as they wanted. In reality the holidays have been a huge success with many parents agreeing that they are a very pleasant mixture of both relaxation and fun, which has once again made their holidays an enjoyable experience.
