NESTING INSTINCT!
Use shredded recycled paper to make these cute bird’s nests to show off Easter treats. They can be made to any size and would make a great spring display. A great group activity!
STORE CUPBOARD:
■ Card (a piece from a recycled cereal box would be perfect)
■ Pencil
■ Scissors
■ Circular template to draw around
■ Paper cupcake cases
■ Shredded paper (recycled white paper, magazine pages, brown packaging paper)
■ PVA glue
1. Draw around your circular template onto a piece of card and cut it out. The card circle needs to be bigger than the cupcake case you have chosen. Glue the cupcake case to the middle of the card circle.
2. Cover the outside of the cupcake case and the rest of the card circle with glue and begin sticking on the shredded paper, a few strands at a time.
3. Keep adding the strands of paper until you are happy with the shape and size of your nest. Then fill the nest with goodies!
HINTS & TIPS
■ Try drawing around a small plate or large beaker to get a perfect circle for the card base.
■ Vary the colours of the nests by using different types of paper such as newspaper, magazines and other textured stock. You could also just use sheets of shredded colour paper.
■ If you don’t want to use paper cup cake cases, any small containers will work such as small yoghurt pots.
