Children's Literature Courses This Summer
August week one: five days (Monday 1st to Friday 5th) Pirates, Smugglers and Treasure (includes Treasure Island) We have The National Theatre play as well as the novel to read, improvise and act from. Lots of the time we will be on beaches, in coves and even going across to an island! Perfect for years four to six/seven
August week two: five days (Monday 8th to Friday 12th) The Fantastical World (includes The Water Babies, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Alice in Wonderland) All sorts of things including a trip to the Seal Sanctuary to examine an otters character, rock pooling to look at these creatures that Tom finds (metamorphosing water babies will be considered in depth! All aspects of Darwinism will be exposed!) We have the play scripts also so will be acting as well. Perfect for years four to seven
August week three: five days (Monday15th to Friday 19th) Islands, Sea and Adventure. Michael Morpurgo is our author on this course: Kensukes Island and Why the Whales Came Thought provoking novels themes of war and isolation, survival and courage plus the company of orang-utans. August week five plus first day of September: five days (Sunday 28th - Sept 1st ) Introduction to Jane Austen. Emma and Persuasion The craft of writing style behind Emma and Persuasion (used by J.K.Rowling when writing Harry Potter). Looking for the clues! Emma, like Harry, gets it all wrong! October Half term: five days. Fantastical World Course. Main text: Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone. Perfect for years five to seven
Christmas holiday: Just before Christmas, dates to be announced soon. A Winters Tale. A play that has lost and found as its theme which features foreign lands, Kings, Queens, prophesy, secrets, disguise and even a bear! A perfect delight to read and act out! Lots of dressing up, making props and eating festive food under a Christmas Tree. Years five to seven will love it. As usual a performance will be given to the parents on our last afternoon.
