August - Franchise Idea for Back to Work Mums

Families continue spend on Children’s activities despite consumer spending cuts.

This weekend was very significant to many of UK small business, the first weekend of the School summer holidays, and an important indicator of whether or not parents will be spending money on Children’s and family entertainment this summer.

The recent string of retail failures, including some of the High Street’s most well-known names, indicate that this summer could see the toughest trading environment for small businesses since the recession.

Fortunately, the weather did its stuff and hundreds of thousands of families were and about in the sunshine across the country to attend the many family entertainment parks, fun days, family events, galas and activities.

Alistair Patterson, Director of Kids Bee Happy a business that sells Children’s Sand Art Franchises, said; “This weekend was far busier than we predicted. We were providing Sand Art at the National Museum of Scotland’s Airshow on Saturday, and at the inaugural Edinburgh Pipeband Championships on Sunday, and both events had turnouts larger than the organisers anticipated. It was great to see so many families out and about having fun. The warm sunshine definitely helped.

Although there is undoubtedly a lot of pressure on the family wallet, I think the most important factor for businesses supplying the family market is to make sure that they provide really good value for money. Parents are still quite happy to spend on activities, but they are really looking hard to make sure that the money they spend provides good entertainment for the money that they are paying, and rightly so.”

Our Sand Art activity retails at £4 per card, and we offer discounts for families with more than one child. I think that this really helps families as even though its maybe just a pound or two that’s saved, it pays for an ice cream. At £4 we’re about the same price as a few minutes on a bungee trampoline, but instead with us, children take part in an activity which takes on average about 20 minutes and they get something that they can keep and display. We know that children love it, but it’s just as important to make sure that the parents are happy too, we think our Sand Art offers terrific value for money, and it’s good to see parents agreeing.
